Hitler Youth started in the 1920. by 1933 there was about 100,000 members that were in the Hitler youth. When Hitler came to power, all other youth movements were no longer in existence which meant that the Hitler Youth population grew. In 1936, the population grew to 4 million and also during this time it was very popular to join the Hitler Youth. The Hitler Youth catered to 10 to 18 year old. It was separated into 2 sections, one for boys and the other for girls. The boys section was to prepare them for the military service. And the girls section was to prepare them for motherhood. After 1939, it was impossible for youth to avoid any active service if they paid their subscription. To everyone else, people though the Hitler Youth seemed to personify German discipline. This was far from true. The school teachers complained that the children were often so tired from attending the meeting for Hitler Youth, that they could barely stay awake. By 1938, attendance so so poor, about 25%, that the authorities tighten the rope on the attendance. Making it a law in 1939 that is was making it mandatory.
Balder von Shirach was the person who oversaw the whole Hitler Youth movement
